Fez - French President Francois Hollande urged for constitutional amendments to be made to strip dual nationals of their French citizenship if they are deemed a terrorist threat during a speech directed to both houses of parliament at Versailles on Monday.
The president started his speech declaring that “France is at war” and vowed that France will defeat terrorism.
Hollande expressed his desire to revoke the French citizenship of dual nationals who are guilty of terrorist acts and stop them from entering France.
He also said he wanted changes to the French constitution to help France combat its “homegrown terrorism crisis” and asked for a rise in the budget directed to security forces and the army to guarantee more security commenting he would be responsible for the budget rise which will result in higher spending
Hollande further demanded legislation amendments to allow for house arrests and raids without warrants.
The president also called for stricter surveillance in France and border surveillance of the European Union in order to bolster protection against infiltrators whose intention is to shake stability in the region
Hollande is expected to hold a meeting with US president Barack Obama and Russia’s president Vladimir Putin to discuss strategies on how to eradicate ISIS.
